Lyrics by: Wyman Wong

If I must saw down an old tree
the wood would not feel a thing
But for me who’s been watering the tree daily
would certainly be hollowed out

If you must end this relationship
and pretend the tree never existed
Let me count these tree rings
these tree rings, because my heart certainly will ache
Nonetheless the time has passed
And sculpted into this lengthy letter
Within this letter enclosed
our deepest feelings
Our beginning was not planted by accident
It’s easy to depart but it’s arduous to forget
the countless candlelight dinners
It’s hard to swing an axe and
expect the scenes to fade out
Without a partner the memory will only be trouble
All the small talks, beneath the stars
In front of our eyes, within the journal
The tree can fall, as shadow and fireworks can disperse
But the tree rings cannot be undone, cannot be dissolved
Paths can end but unlike plants,
it’ll take a while for us
Even if you sculpt me a wooden heart,
the pain may not be any less
I rather get to the bottom of our past
like thoroughly burnt charcoal
But once I start counting the tree rings, the first few rings,
and my eyes start swelling up
In between our on and off agains
There’s no less than one-hundred and one nights
I fear that on a windy night where
I’ll look back into the past
The memories will fastly pervade me
It’s easy to depart but it’s arduous to forget
the countless candlelight dinners
It’s hard to swing an axe and expect the scenes to fade out
Without a partner the memory will only be trouble
All the small talks, beneath the stars
In front of our eyes, within the journal
The tree can fall, as shadow and fireworks can disperse
But the tree rings cannot be undone, cannot be dissolved
I just fear if I look back even on the night of my new marriage
A few deep sighs will still be waiting for me
It’s easy to depart but it’s arduous to forget
the countless candlelight dinners
It’s hard to swing an axe
and expect the scenes to fade out
Without a partner the memory will only be trouble
All the small talks, beneath the stars
In front of our eyes, within the journal
The tree can fall, as shadow and fireworks can disperse
But the love cannot be undone, cannot be dissolved
